RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — A dog who came to Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) “minutes away from death” in late October is still fighting.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, RACC posted to its Facebook celebrating that little Veronica VanGough is on the mend after her initial intake on Oct. 29.

Veronica VanGough was rescued from an “awful situation, minutes away from death,” according to a Nov. 2 post from RACC. She arrived at the shelter with both her ear and one side of her face missing.

“Her temp was zilch and her blood pressure [was] almost nonexistent,” RACC said.

Animal control officials said it’s believed she was attacked by another dog.

RACC has a separate Facebook group for medical-related photos, particularly those that are more graphic. In the comments of the first post made about Veronica VanGough there on Oct. 29, RACC spokesperson Christie Peters told another commenter that the “offending dog [is] in custody.”
