Iowa wife who put eyedrops in husband’s drink receives 5 year max prison sentence

MARION COUNTY, Iowa – A Pleasantville woman who spiked her husband’s drink with eyedrops was sentenced to a maximum of five years in prison. Daisy Zantjer, 39, was accused of putting eyedrops in her husband’s drink on two separate occasions in July of 2023, according to a criminal complaint. Eyedrops contain tetrahydrozoline, a chemical that if consumed can cause life-threatening symptoms such as abnormal heart rhythms, slow heart rate, low blood pressure, and breathing problems.
