MULBERRY, Fla. (WFLA) — A 64-year-old man was arrested following an attempted home invasion in Mulberry over the weekend.
At 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, Eugene Albert Hendry, wearing only boxer shorts, began knocking on a home, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said.

Two men and a woman were sitting on the back porch of the home when Hendry then attempted to force the door open.
One of the residents yelled at the suspect to stop, but “he only became more determined to get into the house,” officials said. The woman called 911, while both men grabbed firearms.
According to Polk deputies, Hendry grabbed an object from the porch and smashed it through a window. As he tried to enter the home through the window, one of the men fired two shots to scare him away.
