Worcester to Host Festival of Lights on Dec. 6, Kicking Off Holiday Festivities

WORCESTER, MA – The City of Worcester’s beloved Festival of Lights will return to Worcester Common on Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, marking the start of a weekend of holiday festivities. Running from 4:30 to 9:00 p.m., the free, family-friendly event will feature a dazzling array of light displays, performances, and interactive attractions, setting the festive tone for the holiday season.

Highlighting the evening, the lighting of the Worcester Common tree will take place at 6:00 p.m., followed by a live performance by acclaimed reggae artist Clatta Bumboo. Known for his soulful, rhythmic style rooted in Jamaican culture, Clatta Bumboo is expected to bring energy and warmth to the gathering.

The Festival of Lights event will showcase an extensive winter lighting installation, open from Dec. 6, 2024, to Feb. 28, 2025. Notable installations include “Pillars of Monumental Truth,” a series of 19-foot LED obelisks showcasing multilingual, positive seasonal messages by Worcester artists from Fractaltribe, and “Illuminaciones,” an interactive light sculpture by Zebbler Studios featuring a spiraling tunnel of LED lights perfect for photos. The Common will also have photo-ready holiday displays such as LED-lit snow people and an illuminated heart, as well as the “Glow Park” with a 90-foot alpine slide for festival-goers.
