Council OKs Mesa hotel do-over for homeless help

A former East Mesa hotel is expected to open its doors to homeless individuals beginning in early 2026. Council last week unanimously approved a $5.8 million contract on the consent agenda to low-bidder Blackhawk Construction to renovate the Grand Hotel into “Sunaire,” a 64-unit temporary emergency center that will focus on families, seniors and domestic violence survivors. Vice Mayor Francisco Heredia was absent.
