Aloha to Wichita’s first Hawaiian Bros restaurant, which opens at 11 a.m. Monday at the Plazzio development at 13th and Greenwich.
The fast-food chain specializes in Hawaiian plate lunches served with chicken and pork and macaroni salad.
Plate lunches are a staple in Hawaii and are most often found on roadside stands or hole-in-the-wall restaurants. They typically come with different types of protein, a serving of mayo-based macaroni salad, and two scoops of white rice.
The restaurant’s first 100 customers receive free T-shirts and gift cards that range from $25 to $500.
One person also will win free Hawaiian Bros meals for a year.
Though the restaurant opens to the public Monday, there will be special free meals from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday for students, academic staff, first responders, medical personnel and local business employees.
Hawaiian Bros, which started in 2018, has 12 Kansas City-area restaurants and one in Lawrence.
It’s also in Arkansas, Illinois, New York, Oklahoma and Texas and is adding restaurants in Arizona and Iowa.
