EP County Attorney to provide free protective orders for victims

EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) — Victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking can get free protective orders from the El Paso County Attorney’s Office from their abusers, the office said in a news release on Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Victims can apply for a protective order through the County Attorney’s website here . The process is simple and confidential.

“Our goal: provide victims with options to help them get safe. Protective orders can help victims protect themselves and their families,” El Paso County Attorney Christina Sanchez said. “Apply online from your own safe place or at our offices and we will work to assess your case and obtain a protective order if you qualify.”

According to the County Attorney’s Office, in addition to providing legal protection through protective orders, victims will also be connected with resources such as emergency shelters, financial assistance and education support to help victims rebuild their lives.

Domestic violence too often involves the ongoing use of power and control, where fear, emotional manipulation and financial dependence make it difficult for victims to leave their aggressors: when these tactics of control fail, aggressors turn to violence, the County Attorney’s Office said.
