WASHINGTON, D.C. — Governor Gavin Newsom traveled to Washington, D.C., this week to advocate for California’s top priorities in a series of meetings with White House officials and California’s congressional representatives. The Governor emphasized the urgent need for improved healthcare access, clean air initiatives, and disaster relief funding to support Californians.
While at the White House, Newsom met with President Joe Biden and senior staff to push for federal support of clean air projects, expanded healthcare access, and prompt disaster relief funding. In follow-up discussions with Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, Newsom highlighted the importance of bolstering water quality and advancing the San Luis Dam project to secure water for two million Californians.
On Capitol Hill, Newsom met with Senators Alex Padilla, Adam Schiff, and members of the California delegation to discuss Medicaid waivers for enhanced mental health resources and funding critical to addressing homelessness. These waivers will expand access to affordable health care and strengthen mental health support, especially for justice-involved Californians.
