BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — Three people were charged with issuing a bad check, among other charges, after they allegedly tried to deposit a fake $117,310 check at a bank on Clark Street, according to Orchard Park police.
Police said John Cain, 58, was in possession of a fraudulent check when they arrived at Community Bank at 5 Clark St. Two nearby suspects, Jaylin Dorsey, 24, and Devin Hibbert-Day, 22, were interviewed by police and determined to be involved in the attempt, according to police.
Cain, Dorsey and Hibbert-Day were found to be in possession of multiple stolen checks, credit cards and a check printer.
They were all charged with the following:
- issuing a bad check
- second-degree criminal possession of stolen property
- first-degree identity theft
- second-degree attempted grand larceny
- second-degree criminal impersonation
They were all arraigned and Cain and Dorsey were released on their own recognizances. Hibbert-Day was remanded to the Erie County Holding Center.
Orchard Park Chief of Police Patrick Fitzgerald said attempting to deposit fraudulent checks isn’t a rare occurrence.
