Missouri seeks federal disaster aid for storms aftermath

(KOAM) – Governor Mike Parson has announced that Missouri has begun the process of requesting federal disaster assistance following severe storms, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred from November 3-9, 2024.

The storms caused significant damage to roads, bridges, and infrastructure in 14 counties.

The State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has been working with local officials to document the damage, which has led to a request for joint Preliminary Damage Assessments (PDAs) with FEMA in the affected counties.

The assessments will help determine if Public Assistance can be requested to cover emergency response and recovery costs, such as repairs to damaged infrastructure.

Governor Parson declared a state of emergency on November 5, activating the Missouri State Emergency Operations Plan to coordinate assistance.
