LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) — A murder investigation is underway at High Desert State Prison after an inmate was stabbed to death, the 8 News Now Investigators learned Wednesday.
Hawk Urban, 27, died from multiple stab wounds on Nov. 7, the Clark County Coroner’s Office confirmed. Hawk’s cellmate was identified as the suspect, according to the Nevada Department of Corrections.
Hawk was serving a 28 to 72-month sentence issued in Washoe county for battery by a prisoner, Nevada Department of Corrections records show. He began serving his sentence in 2022, was eligible for parole in 2025, and would have finished serving his sentence in 2026, according to the department.
High Desert State Prison is a maximum-security prison facility located near Indian Springs, which is approximately a 45-minute drive north of Las Vegas.
The facility recently transitioned from a medium-security prison. Two thousand inmates, including Nevada’s death row population, were transferred from Ely State Prison, located nearly 300 miles north of Indian Springs.
