COLUMBUS, Ga. ( WRBL ) — A multi-million dollar construction project on Columbus State University’s main campus has begun. It started with the demolition of a more-than 60-year-old building.
Woodall Hall once stood in the middle of CSU’s campus, near the Whitley Clock Tower. Now, half the hall has been demolished to a pile of rubble. The rest will be removed in the coming weeks.
“People don’t understand how much a learning environment plays into in education. The field, the look and the functionality of a college campus are all very important,” John Lester, CSU’s vice president of external affairs, said.
He continued, “This will add to what kind of feel you get when you come on the campus opening up the green space in the middle of campus.”

The demolition of Woodall Hall is a $380, 000 undertaking on its own. University officials said the removal of the building has been a long time coming, with discussion and efforts to get funding for the project going as far back as 2019.
