The inner circle of Indiana Statehouse politics already knows the story. It’s been written about many times, including detailed reporting by IndyStar. For many of the articles covering it, I was a source.
The story was so transformative in my career as a lobbyist, it convinced me to do two big things. First, it convinced me to write and publish a book about it. Second, it helped me decide to leave the profession and start a new one in higher education.
I published the book, “Flipping the Circle,” three years ago. It is a fictionalized version of an attempt by a group of lobbyists and politicos to corner a future marijuana market in Indiana, if one was ever legally created. The story begins in the Indiana Statehouse in 2015 and tracks the elaborate two-year scheme from start to finish. I’m proud of the book and its 4.2-star review average on Amazon. However, I regret telling the story as a fictionalized version. More on that later.
