A&W announces plans to add restaurants in Madison and Milwaukee

MADISON, Wis. — A&W wants to grow its footprint in Wisconsin. The fast-food chain announced plans Thursday to add restaurants in Madison and Milwaukee.

Known best for its root beer, A&W traces its roots back to Roy Allen and Frank Wright, who opened a restaurant together in Sacramento in 1923. The chain boasts over 850 locations across 35 states and Asia, including 55 locations across Wisconsin.

Currently, the closest A&W to Madison is in Windsor. The chain also has restaurants in DeForest, Lodi and Edgerton. The closest A&W to Milwaukee is in Hales Corners.

“A&W has a positive track record for success in Wisconsin with established communities who love and recognize our brand across the state,” CEO Kevin Bazner said. “Milwaukee and Madison present a unique opportunity for us to expand into established communities that still have room to support new businesses.”

A&W wants to open 2-4 locations in Madison and 3-5 locations in Milwaukee over the next five years. The franchise said it will actively seek franchisees from first-time owners to investors. The initial franchise starting fee is $30,000.
