There’s a new dog in town: Gulf Shores Police Department unleashes newest K-9

GULF SHORES, Ala. ( WKRG ) — The Gulf Shores Police Department has welcomed its newest member.

K-9 Bagheera is a 5-year-old black lab. He’s already a fan favorite at the beach and even has a couple thousand followers on his Instagram page.

‘American Idol’ finalist Triston Harper, 16, is expecting baby with new wife, his mother reveals

“This is K-9 Bagheera,” Gulf Shores Police K-9 Officer Ashley Shanks said. “He’s an explosives and firearm detection dog.”

Shanks is Bagheera’s handler, and the two began working together in September.

After less than a month on duty, Bagheera got his first street find.

“They usually have a generalized area of where their concern is or where something was possibly thrown,” Shanks said. “So they hold that area, and I’m talking to them the entire way getting him excited and ready for it. And then once we get there, get him set, he immediately started pulling me to where it was. So that was pretty awesome to watch that.”
