Florida State’s 2025 recruiting class took another big hit on Thursday morning as Jacksonville Mandarin four-star quarterback Tramell Jones announced his decommitment.
The senior gunslinger had been pledged to the Seminoles since April of 2023, but is now back on the board amidst FSU’s poor 2024 season, coupled with a torrid push from Florida — which is now trending to land the 6-foot-1, 200-pounder.
With the Early Signing Period just three weeks out, Florida State has just 12 commits in its 2025 class. That list no longer includes a blue-chip QB, though that could change again soon.
At the end of October, Fort Myers (Fla.) Bishop Verot four-star QB Carter Smith backed off a commitment to Michigan . Now the top uncommitted signal-caller in the 2025 class, Smith is once again weighing his options, including the in-state Seminoles.
On Thursday, On3 VP of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong logged a pick in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine in favor of FSU landing Smith, the No. 200 overall prospect and No. 18 QB in the 2025 cycle. Earlier this week, Smith’s father, Dan, told Wiltfong that Carter is looking at an official visit to Tallahassee on the weekend of Nov. 30.
