4 students from Des Moines dojo compete in World Karate Championship

DES MOINES, Iowa — This fall, four students from Traditional Karate Academy in Des Moines brought home four medals from the World Traditional Karate Championship in Spain.

Since 1989 Kraig and his son Seth Rosendahl have trained world-class fighters at Traditional Karate Academy in Des Moines. This year they sent four students to the world championship.

Seth Rosendahl said that he is proud of his students.

“To see them perform so well, even with such a small dojo like ours in the Des Moines area, was just really, really exciting. I mean, they put themselves and Iowa on the map this year at the nationals and the world level,” Rosendahl said.

Aiden Rosendahl, one of the students who competed at the World Championship, hopes the academy’s success will lead more kids to try Karate.

“We’re getting lots of younger students, even in our dojo here. We’re trying to expand here and I think that’d be great. Starting to get them into even competition like that. It’s just a great experience,” Rosendahl said.
