MADISON, Wis. — A proposal for paid parking in public lots went through its second phase of approval on Nov. 12.
The City of Madison Parks Division released a statement Thursday about having people pay for parking at public lots.
It is described as a “concept” that is set to be a “short-term, small scale experiment,” and that its input and output shared by community members will be evaluated in early 2026.
With the election last week, there was a referendum that approved a raise in property taxes to keep city services like the park system afloat. Channel3000 spoke with District 6 Alder Marsha Rummel, a sponsor of the proposed parking fee plan.
“It won’t be a wholesale, big change. It would just be a trial to see how it worked,” said Rummel.
