A recent survey by personal injury firm Bisnar Chase has revealed that German Shepherds top the list of dog breeds most feared by California delivery drivers. These findings shed light on a little-discussed challenge in the delivery profession: dog encounters. While owners may see these loyal pets as family, delivery drivers often experience them as vigilant “gatekeepers.”
The survey, which included responses from 3,000 drivers across the state, ranks German Shepherds as the number one feared breed. Known for their intelligence, agility, and protective instincts, these dogs are frequently used in police and security work, making them particularly intimidating for delivery drivers entering unfamiliar properties.
Close behind in the rankings are Rottweilers and Pit Bull Terriers, coming in as the second and third most feared breeds. Rottweilers are large and muscular, with an intense, watchful demeanor that can make drivers nervous. Pit Bull Terriers, while often friendly, are known for their strength and loyalty, which can appear intimidating, especially when they’re unrestrained.
