Well that’s quite the change. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the Congresswoman – sorry, Congressperson – from New York who was served in the House of Representatives since 2019, is generally considered one of the more liberal/progressive/woke members of Congress. The 35-year old former bartender has made waves and has often found herself a target of criticism from conservatives for her liberal positions, including for her role in causing Amazon to pull out of a planned headquarters in her district and her staged crying photo when she posed by a parking lot near the border. https://twitter.com/MAC_Arms/status/1848461693111963880 And as most liberals are, AOC is big on using pronouns to show that she’s an ally with the transgender community. Back in 2022, AOC apologized when somebody asked her to add pronouns to her Instagram bio, claiming that they “used to be there” but that they must have “fell off.” https://twitter.com/SpeedyScoops/status/1857134570161807387 Now, is there any reason for AOC to have pronouns on her social media? Is she getting called by the wrong pronouns on a regular basis? Or is she just virtue signaling to the far left to prove that she’s sufficiently progressive? Well, I’ll let you decide that one for yourself. But folks over on Twitter (sorry, didn’t mean to call it by the wrong name, I mean X) recently noticed that AOC seems to have removed the pronouns from her bio there too. Or did they just fall off? https://twitter.com/Outkick/status/1857136639421600236 Now, many assumed that she removed her pronouns after seeing the results of the 2024 presidential election, when voters seemed to reject the left’s transgender ideology and policies like allowing biological men in women’s sports, as well as so called “gender-affirming care” for children. https://twitter.com/AutismCapital/status/1857105047131443626 https://twitter.com/Bubblebathgirl/status/1857123674282660273 https://twitter.com/miltimore79/status/1857222273498747387 https://twitter.com/TaraServatius/status/1857221477256372708 https://twitter.com/NafYochanan/status/1857218902876442906 But thanks to the Internet Archive, users were able to pinpoint that the pronouns (which were she/her, just for the record) were removed at some point between October 2023 and May 2024. https://twitter.com/benryanwriter/status/1856930703058800801 That still didn’t stop anybody from mocking her for seemingly having a change of heart on the importance of the use of pronouns to be “inclusive” – and questioning whether she’s finally seen the light and will be “transitioning” to the right. https://twitter.com/personofswag/status/1857239697178906681 https://twitter.com/seamus_coughlin/status/1857235524525691078 https://twitter.com/imPenny2x/status/1857141190459634029 The change was also noticed just days after AOC asked her Instagram followers who voted for Trump which podcasts they listened to, and also asked for followers who voted for both her and Trump to share their reasoning for splitting their ticket. https://twitter.com/aaronnarraph/status/1855962504712552829 https://twitter.com/TaraBull808/status/1857206471639052653 But even her fellow Congresswoman, Republican Marjorie Taylor Greene from Georgia, was questioning why the change in her colleague’s Twitter bio: https://twitter.com/mtgreenee/status/1857123679286771852 I know this change from AOC happened well before the election, but it seems like more and more Democrats are speaking out against their own party when it comes to their stance on the debate surrounding transgender ideology. One Democrat Congressman, Rep. Seth Moulton of Massachusetts, recently questioned why it’s not acceptable for him to say that he doesn’t believe biological men should be playing women’s sports. And naturally, he quickly received a ton of backlash from those in his own party over the comments. https://twitter.com/RichardHanania/status/1854970410036871458 I have a feeling we’ll start to see more and more Democrats start to break from their own party over the whole pronoun/transgender policies, as they realize that not only do most Americans not agree with them, but if the recent election is any indication, it may actually be costing them votes. Because we all know that’s all that matters to these people, right? They’ll say and do whatever they can to get elected, whether they believe it or not.
