Questions remain after mysterious Denver odor and death

Just a few blocks from a large green sign welcoming people to the Green Valley Ranch neighborhood, questions remain about a mysterious odor at a home that resulted in a person dying and four others being hospitalized on Tuesday.

Two days later, the cause of the illness and death are still up in the air. The Denver Police Department is waiting for the results of the medical examiner’s investigation.

The Denver Fire Department initially responded to the home after a resident claimed to have had trouble breathing, according to the department. Upon arrival, fire crews and Denver Health assisted several people.

One person was pronounced dead, and four — two adults and two children — were taken to a nearby hospital around 10 a.m., according to a subsequent social media post from the department. The two other people were not taken to a hospital.

The status of the four hospitalized residents has not been released by the police department. Police said an initial investigation found that the death was not criminal in nature.
