Lofton takes stand in murder trial, testifies he wanted to shoot restaurant manager, not kill him

Lofton took the stand in his defense Thursday afternoon spending about an hour explaining the events that led up to the murder.

At times through tears, he recounted finding out about a sexual assault his wife, Aerial Allen, an employee at Taziki’s, told him had happened between her and her boss at work. All of it was debunked through a series of text messages and medical documents fabricated by Allen.

Lofton said he is still trying to figure out the truth, but prosecutors said that didn’t stop him from going to the restaurant early the morning of June 29, 2023. He arrived two hours before Mallette and a coworker, according to testimony, and confronted Mallette at the rear of the restaurant and shot him once in the chest.
