Hopewell police to hand out free steering wheel locks at upcoming event

HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) β€” Hopewell residents can get a free steering wheel lock at an upcoming police event.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 23, the Hopewell Police Department will host this free steering wheel lock giveaway in the 200 block of North 2nd Avenue, behind its headquarters.

Those interested in getting a steering wheel lock must show proof of their Hopewell residency. Only one lock will be provided per vehicle.

β€œThe locks will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so we encourage early arrival,” the department said.

According to police, this is part of a broader effort to combat vehicle thefts in Hopewell.
