Construction of a new Neighborhood Market Walmart in Milton has started as the global retailer continues its commitment to a five-year initiative to build or convert 150 stores across the U.S.
A Walmart spokesperson confirmed to the News Journal that they’ve started the process to build the incoming store on U.S. Highway 90 and that it is scheduled to open next summer in an area that’s in need of options for grocery shopping.
Santa Rosa County approved Walmart’s plans in January to demolish a building, which formerly held a Bealls retail outlet, in order to build the new store.
Walmart projects that the new, 57,000-square-foot location will bring 100 jobs to the Milton area with its creation.
This store will be located at 6275 U.S. 90 in a plaza that currently contains a Big Lots, Taco Bell and a few other retailers. The new Walmart will follow the chain’s “Store of the Future” concept, which is a change in store layouts to expand product selections and make improvements for both shoppers and employees.
