Gilbert Police gets grant funds to help traffic enforcement

The Gilbert Police Department received more than $200,000 in grants for 2025 from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety.

The grant funds will provide the department with funding for increased enforcement and training for its traffic unit as part of the 2025 federal fiscal year.

The additional funds allow officers to spend extra time, outside of their already dedicated hours, to focus on the areas of DUI enforcement, pedestrian and bicycle enforcement, selective traffic enforcement, and training for accident investigations.

The awarded grant funds break down this way for 2025:

  • DUI Enforcement: $110,000 for personnel (overtime) to be used for impaired driving enforcement;
  • Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP): $80,000 for personnel (overtime) to be used for enforcement of speeding, red light running, aggressive driving and other forms of risky driving behavior;
  • Accident Investigation-Related Training: $22,018 to be used for training and travel related to the investigation of serious and fatal collisions;
