Ousted California prosecutor to vindictively bring charges against sheriff’s deputies in final days

Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price is set to hold her first press conference since being recalled in last week’s election. The former DA, who lost the recall vote with 64% of county voters in support of her removal, will address criminal charges related to the in-custody death of Maurice Monk at Santa Rita County Jail.

Nine deputies and two medical staff members have been charged in connection with Monk’s death, which occurred in November 2021. According to Price, Monk’s body may have been left undiscovered for up to three days before it was found. Monk’s family later received a $7 million settlement from the county following a lawsuit.
