(WHBF) — In Iowa’s 94-57 over Toledo the Hawkeyes knocked down just four three pointers. All of those makes came from junior guard Taylor McCabe.
After starting the first two games, McCabe came off the bench with Sydney Affolter returning to the starting lineup.
“There has to be a concession in your mind,” head coach Jan Jensen said. “Taylor handled that beautifully, and her production was tremendous. We’re going to have to have that from her and she’s going to play a pivotal role for us. And that’s why I was thrilled to see her respond like that.”
Hannah Stuelke won Big Ten sixth player of the year in 2022, and Sydney Affolter proved to be a major asset off the bench in 2023. Between McCabe and a group of talented freshmen it’s unclear who’s going to own that role this season, but McCabe’s marksmanship has a chance to be this team’s spark.

Of her fourteen points just one basket came from a shot that wasn’t a three pointer — a first quarter layup. That was just the second time in her career she’s done that.
