NORTH PORT: Adopters wanted: Adopt n’ Shop Program eyes holiday help

NORTH PORT — North Port Social Services is looking for “adopters” to help families in need this holiday season.

The annual “Adopt n’ Shop” program allows families, businesses or anyone to “adopt” a North Port family for the holidays.

Adopters, according to city officials, can then go do things like shop, wrap gifts and transport goods to the family.

One may adopt as many families as they like.

Registration to become an adopter closes Nov. 30.

Information like names, ages and gift preferences are provided to the adopter.

City officials said that there are still around 160 children left to adopt. That number is continuing to shrink. There were 230 who needed to be adopted last week.
