Man caught with 200 pounds of pot near North East gets probation

ELKTON — A man who was caught with slightly more than 200 pounds of “high-grade hydroponic” marijuana during an Interstate 95 traffic stop near North East in April must perform 100 hours of community work service — while on three years of supervised probation that he received after accepting a plea deal in his criminal case, according to Cecil County Circuit Court records.

Cecil County Circuit Court Judge Cameron A. Brown imposed a suspended three-year sentence on the defendant — Hunter Jordan Knight, 24, of Hampton, Va. — for possession of cannabis with intent to distribute during a hearing on Friday (Nov. 8), court records show.

Earlier in that proceeding, Knight had pleaded guilty to that felony as part of a plea agreement reached by Assistant State’s Attorney Scott Lewis and Knight’s Elkton-based defense lawyer, William F. Riddle. As part of the plea bargain, prosecutors dismissed three related charges, including importation of marijuana into the state.

The judge placed Knight on three years of supervised probation, after imposing the suspended three-year sentence. Brown fined Knight $2,500, in addition to ordering him to perform 100 hours of community service as part of his probation, court records show.
