LONGMONT, Colo. (KDVR) — A group of Longmont residents are upset over changes coming to a local park and the euthanasia efforts of prairie dogs who live there.
Dry Creek Park sits on the Southwest edge of Longmont and is loved by many. A masterplan has been in place since 2008 for the park to have some changes to include new turf fields and sports lighting. The city is in the works on phase one of its master plan, but the first phase has had some hurdles: prairie dogs.

Some residents feel the changes to the park are unnecessary and are upset about the disruption of prairie dogs in the area.
“We are taking something good and putting plastic over it and all of the wildlife will be gone,” said one of those concerned residents, Michele Christensen.
Another one of those volunteers is Jaime Fraina, who feels there could have been a better effort to meet in the middle on new fields and keep the ecosystem of the park alive.
