DUSON, La. ( KLFY ) — Local officials, parents and former students at Duson Elementary School are voicing their concerns about the proposed closing of the school.
Duson Mayor Johnny Thibodeaux said the school closing will affect the growth of the town as a whole.
“Closing the Duson Elementary school is not just closing the school, it’s closing our community. Our community is going to be affected by this. Lives are going to be affected by this,” Thibodeaux said.
The Lafayette Parish School System announced Wednesday that it received the final recommendations for district optimization from the Civic Solutions Group. Other schools that could face possible closure are, S-J Montgomery Elementary, Katharine Drexel Elementary, Acadian Middle, Lafayette Middle and Comeaux High School .
