The oldest restaurant in MA is over 300 years old. Here’s how to eat there

As one of the oldest states, Massachusetts started many things before the country was even founded – settlements, towns , colleges and even restaurants.

In fact, the state’s oldest restaurant is 60 years older than the United States. First built by David How as a family house in 1707, Longfellow’s Wayside Inn opened for business in 1716, making it not only the state’s oldest restaurant, but also the country’s oldest inn.

Over 300 years later, The Wayside Inn in Sudbury still operates as an inn and restaurant offering New England cuisine in a 100-acre property with beautiful meadows, fields and ponds. It has been visited by names like George Washington, Henry David Thoreau and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, and in 1970, the inn was named a Massachusetts Historic Landmark.
