A man accused of child sex crimes was taken into custody Monday in Mexico after failing to show for a court appearance in October, Gilbert police said.
Randall Todd Arrington, 61, allegedly fled to Mexico after not showing up for a settlement conference on Oct. 21 aimed at finding a resolution without a trial, according to court documents and Gilbert police.
According to the U.S. Marshals, Arrington cut his court-ordered ankle monitor, sold his home and fled to Mexico with the money.
Mexican law enforcement took Arrington into custody on Nov. 11. He was then turned over to Gilbert police.
“Of all of the dangerous fugitives the U.S. Marshals arrest, the individuals who are charged with crimes against minors are especially important to us and our communities,” said U.S. Marshal for the District of Arizona Van Bayless.
Arrington faces 15 counts related to charges in Gilbert involving the molestation and sexual assault of a child under 15 between July 2000 and July 2009, according to court records. He was originally taken into custody in 2023, and court records show that a grand jury indicted Arrington in October 2023.
