KNOXVILLE, Tenn (WATE) — Six Tennessee campgrounds closed for the winter on November 15, according to the Tennessee Valley Authority .
The TVA will reopen the campgrounds on March 15, 2025. The six parks are:
- Cherokee Dam in Jefferson City, Tenn.
- Douglas Dam Headwater near Sevierville, Tenn.
- Douglas Dam Tailwater near Sevierville, Tenn.
- Melton Hill Dam near Lenoir City, Tenn.
- Watauga Dam near Elizabethton, Tenn.
- Pickwick Dam near Savannah, Tenn.
Online reservations for camping in 2025 will open on December 1 through Vista Recreation .
Additionally, all of the staffed TVA dam welcome centers will close by November 25 or sooner, according to their press release. The Raccoon Mountain Visitors Center is closed until June 2025.
Seasonal road closures begin in Great Smoky Mountains National Park
In 2024, visitors stayed in TVA-developed campgrounds for more than 102,000 nights, a number that the TVA says would have been higher if not for Hurricane Helene. They also boasted over 124,000 guests at their visitors centers.
