Powerful Low Pressure May Bring Heavy Snows to Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania
11/15/24 12:15pm EST
Good afternoon everyone. Clear skies dominate most of the Northeast & New England aside from western New York & Pennsylvania, and upper Maine. High pressure is in dominant form, with cooler air slowly modifying back to above average temperatures. 50’s today will slowly rise into the 60’s tomorrow, then possibly some upper 60’s for Monday.
The dry spell remains the big story for the Northeast, but we will see a very powerful system take shape in the Great Lakes region come midweek next week. In areas such as Michigan, Ohio, western Pennsylvania & New York, we could see some gale force winds and heavy rains changing to heavy lake-effect snows between next Wednesday and Friday. A sweeping front should bring a round of soaking rains across the Tri-State area and New England as well.
That storm system will be sourced from low pressure exiting the Southwest, combined with tropical energy surging north into the Gulf of Mexico. Before we talk of any Great Lake gales, we’ll have a severe thunderstorm risk across parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas late Sunday into Monday. At minimum, we’ll be looking at some very heavy rains across a wide section of the Midwest. However, we could also see the chance of locally damaging winds, large hail, frequent lightning, and the possibility of a few tornadoes.
