A Shreveport man will serve life in prison for the mass shooting in downtown Shreveport on March 25, 2023.
Devin Owen Porter Jr., 21, was found guilty in October 2024 of all eight charges against him — second-degree murder, six counts of attempted second-degree murder and aggravated flight from officers.
On March 25, 2023, Porter and at least two other shooters came to the intersection of Texas and Market St. in a stolen vehicle. While in the intersection, they opened fire on a group of people heading toward one of the downtown clubs.
Seven people were shot, including Jacorvin Taylor, 32, who was fatally wounded.
According to the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office, at least sixty shots were fired, with Porter responsible for at least 33 shots, including the fatal round.
The shooters then fled in the stolen vehicle leading Shreveport Police Department on a high-speed chase. Porter was arrested by Shreveport police just south of the Peach Street Apartment complex.
Officers found three AR-style guns in the stolen vehicle.
