Police: 1 dead in Portsmouth shooting

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — One person has died after he was shot at the intersection of High Street and Frederick Boulevard in Portsmouth Friday afternoon, police said.

Portsmouth Police told 10 On Your Side’s Deja Parker that the person was in critical condition after a shooting that took place around 2:45 p.m.

Officers arriving at the scene found a man suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound, but he later died at a local hospital as a result of his injuries, Portsmouth Police said.

Police Chief Stephen Jenkins was among those at the scene and Portsmouth Police are investigating the shooting. Police said the man’s family has been notified.

Police identified the shooting victim as 40-year-old Robert James Mallory.

Jenkins is asking that anyone with information about the shooting call the Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-U-UP.
