MIAMI (WFLA) — Miami Beach police identified the remains found on Key Biscayne as the 19-year-old who died saving his sister when they both were caught in a rip current last Saturday.
According to NBC affiliate WTVJ , Victor Castaneda Jr.’s family said he and his younger sister were had just gotten into the water when they both were taken by the current.

Castaneda managed to save his sister by tossing her closer to shore. A Good Samaritan pulled the girl from the water, but by the time they looked for her brother, he was gone.
Officers searched for Castaneda for three hours before suspending their efforts, but on Tuesday, a human head was found by a person raking the beach on Key Biscayne, behind the Key Colony II Ocean Sound condos.
Miami Beach police said Friday, the Miami Dade Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the remains belonged to Castaneda.
“The Miami Beach Police Department extends prayers and condolences to the family,” the department said. “Our victim advocates will continue to provide support to the family during this time.”
