TAUNTON — If you have a home in need of some furry companions, this abandoned feline trio may be what you seek.
Dubbed “The Massasoit Family” by the Taunton Animal Care Facility , this mother and her two 5-6 month old kittens, a girl and a boy, were sadly found abandoned in a metal wire cage in Massasoit Park earlier this week.
“They ate and slept a lot when they got here,” said Diane Saunders, adoption coordinator for the Taunton Animal Care Facility, about the blue/gray/silver domestic short hair cats.
No one knows how long they were left there, but the cage had no bedding, the food bowl was empty and dirty, and they had no water with them.
To make matters worse, when the animal control officer brought them in Monday, the male kitten’s tail had to be amputated due to an apparent attack from another animal, like a raccoon or dog.
“The tail is just a nub now,” said Saunders, “but he’s in good spirits.”
It’s been confirmed the cats were someone’s pets.
“They aren’t feral. They’re sweet and friendly” around humans, said Saunders, which means they were abandoned.
