Powerful Storm System Set to Come Ashore Across Parts of California, Oregon, and Washington

Long-Reaching System Will Cause Severe Thunderstorms in the Midwest & Great Lakes Gale Next Week

11/15/24 4:10pm EST

Good afternoon everyone. As forecasted and discussed, our long range forecast is starting to come together in the form of an initial powerful storm system set to come ashore across California, Oregon, and Washington.

This is set to be a long-duration event, with winter storm watches and winter weather advisories for the mountain ranges of the West Coast from tomorrow morning through Monday. In the mountains of Washington and Oregon, 12-24″ of snow is expected through this time period in elevations 4,000ft and above. In lower elevations, up to 6″ of snow may fall.

Across the ranges of California, 3-6″ of snow is possible, while heavy rain and thunderstorms will grace areas from central California, to up across coastal sections of Oregon and Washington. We also have a wind and rough sea component to this, where winds up to 40mph are possible and seas 10-17ft possible.

After the West Coast impact, heavy snows will move across the Rockies, then drag a front south enough to draw up moisture from northern Mexico, the Southwest, and eventually the Gulf of Mexico. This will reinvigorate the weakening system and will be responsible for heavy showers and thunderstorms developing across parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and Kansas late Sunday into Monday.
