Floridians Who Don’t Qualify For SNAP Can Now Apply In Person For D-SNAP For Lost Food After Storms

When I wrote an article about the USDA D-SNAP program that may be applicable to Floridians who lost food during the recent storms but who don’t normally qualify for SNAP benefits, some readers commented that FEMA will not pay for lost food. And, indeed, per Florida Today, FEMA and the American Red Cross do not reimburse people for lost food due to power. However, there is a USDA program called D-SNAP that does. And in-person sites are starting to open up.

About The D-SNAP Program: This is a program run by the USDA and it is available to Floridians affected by recent storms who are NOT already on food assistance.

It is important to know that financial eligibility is considered (and documentation and an interview are required. Approved Floridians will receive an EBT card that can be used to purchase food. Per the USDA, recipients will receive one month of benefits.

The In-Person Sites That Are Starting To Open Up: Below are the in-person locations. Note that you will need to preregister before going in person. You can do that here. Note that online pre-registration will open on the first day of each in -person event and close on the last day.
