‘Avoid Florida like the plague’ may be new state motto Letters

Post-election: Dark days ahead in Florida

I don’t know where to begin.

So many things scare me about the state and national results of this election.

Being a senior citizen, the results will have less of an effect on me. But if I were part of a family of child-bearing age, I would avoid Florida like the plague.

This isn’t my parents’ Florida – or even the Florida of 20 years ago when I moved here.

With the defeat of the abortion amendment , any woman who thinks about getting pregnant while living here puts her life in the hands of politicians who don’t know or care about women’s rights or health.

With President-elect Donald Trump’s threat to gut all climate-control initiatives and withdraw from global climate accords, hurricanes and storms in Florida and around the country will get more frequent and severe.

The three that affected Florida this year are only a sign of worse things to come.

And if you are an immigrant (legal or illegal), have a different sexual orientation or are not a WASP, you can be sure they are coming for you next.
