Minneapolis preschool teacher injured in hit-and-run

A GoFundMe has been created for a preschool teacher who was struck by a driver while on a walk in her Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood Sunday afternoon.

KSTP reported that Julia Klatt Singer, 61, was crossing Central Avenue in Northeast Minneapolis around 4:30 p.m. when she said the driver of an SUV making a left turn struck her while she was on the sidewalk.

The driver fled, and Minneapolis police are still searching for the suspect. However, Singer was left with multiple fractures and a dislocated shoulder.

Singer is a preschool teacher at Grace Neighborhood Nursery School in Minneapolis.

She is beloved within her community, so much so that a parent from the Nursery school created a GoFundMe to provide funds to Singer as she recovers in the hospital and at home.

“Julia brings light to our community through her teaching, art, poetry, and peaceful presence. She emanates kindness and connection and has even turned this personal setback into an opportunity to share a message focused on compassion and humanity,” GoFundMe organizer Anne Meister wrote.
