Boy who stole gun in custody after standoff with Maplewood police

A teenager is in custody following a standoff with the Maplewood police Friday morning.

Maplewood PD said officers were called to the 1700 block of Beebe Road around 8:45 a.m. after a boy allegedly stole a gun and locked himself in an apartment. According to police, he wouldn’t exit the apartment at the request of his family, nor officers.

Multiple squad vehicles and officers were seen by KSTP reporters blocking off the intersection of Larpenteur Avenue and Beebe Road at around 10:15 a.m.

The boy finally came out of the apartment at around 11:20 a.m. After executing a search warrant, police said they found a loaded gun inside the house.

Police have not specified where or when the boy stole the gun. Still, he is currently in custody at the Ramsey County Juvenile Detention Center for ineligible possession of a firearm.
