Hot Springs officials stress importance of organized communication in 1st post-Helene meet

HOT SPRINGS – In its first monthly meeting since Tropical Storm Helene, the Hot Springs Town Board discussed a range of topics, including the importance of streamlined communication.

Meeting at the Hot Springs Freewill Baptist Church due to the city hall sustaining significant damage from the floods, the board and Mayor Abby Norton heard from department representatives, business owners and residents about how to best move forward following the devastating destruction.

A number of residents and town officials emphasized the importance of effective communication and working together to ensure all parties were on the same page, so as to avoid improper use of resources.

During the public comment period to open the meeting, resident Andy Fulton suggest the town look into hiring a professional influencer for roughly six months to potentially secure funding for the town.

“I think if we had some budget in the Hot Springs Tourism, or even if we signed a contract with them to allocate a percentage of whatever’s collected, I think there’s still a massive opportunity for the town to continue to get messaging out, video content out for the next six months, to continue to collect money for the town, and for later,” Fulton said.
