Wow. It’s over, and the American people have spoken for the 59th time in our nation’s history.
The highest office contest winner wasn’t my choice, so we’ll leave that there, and move on. But I want to share several observations made during my rookie tenure with early and election day voters and volunteers in Brunswick County.
First, the spirit, determination, and fortitude of many of Brunswick County voters astounded and impressed me. One example: a lady drives her husband for curbside voting. He had open heart surgery the previous week. His torso covered in cushions, and at risk of disease, he took that gamble so he could exercise his rights. That is spirit, determination, fortitude, and desire.
In addition, there were a number of adult children bringing their elderly parents to vote, be it on their lunch hour, before or after work. This also amazed me and illustrated their dedication to our democracy. And there were many more examples.
