Fake Nurse Arrested in California

Additional Coverage:

A 44-year-old woman from Virginia, Amanda Porter, has been arrested for impersonating a nurse and working at several Los Angeles County hospitals without a license.

Porter was identified as the suspect after an investigation into a report of impersonation at Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in May 2024. She had obtained the nursing position using false credentials and oversaw approximately 60 patients.

Porter does not hold a nursing license and is on federal probation for fraud in Virginia. She allegedly used various false identities to gain employment at other hospitals in the Southern California area.

On November 7, Porter was arrested by Burbank police and charged with identity theft, false impersonation, and grand theft. She is being held without bail.

Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center has stated that Porter was terminated once her credentials were found to be falsified. They have notified affected patients and are committed to patient safety.

The Burbank Police Department is seeking additional information from anyone with knowledge of this case.
