Arizona Senate Candidate Killed in Suspected DUI Crash

Tragedy struck in Tucson, Arizona, as John McLean, a Democratic candidate for the state Senate, was killed in a DUI crash early Friday morning.

Police confirmed that Michael Martin Creel, 27, was allegedly driving under the influence and ran a stop sign, colliding with McLean’s vehicle. McLean died at the scene, while Creel faces manslaughter and aggravated DUI charges.

McLean had recently conceded the election to Republican opponent Vince Leach. He was a political newcomer who had expressed passion for serving his community.

Arizona Senate Democrats mourned McLean’s passing, stating that he fought for a better Arizona and extending condolences to his family. Leach also expressed his sympathies, calling McLean “a good man” who ran an honorable campaign.

Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs paid tribute to McLean, calling him a “true public servant” who cared deeply about Arizona. She described his death as a “tragic loss.”

The investigation into the fatal crash is ongoing, with police citing speed and impairment as known factors.
