Mother demands answers from UK Hospital after son’s unexpected death

LEXINGTON, Ky. ( FOX 56 ) — Through her grief, Lauralee Yocom of Lincoln County is demanding answers after the unexpected death of her son, 28-year-old Clay Wooten.

“My son was a kind and gentle soul. He did not deserve to die this violent death,” said Yocom.

Wooten was admitted to UK Hospital on November 2 after experiencing a mental episode.

“He had a mental breakdown, and he was in the psych ward where he was restrained, medicated, there was three guards at the door, and we were told that they were going to send him on to Eastern State,” said Yocom.

But instead, for an unknown reason, she said he son was moved to a less secure part of the hospital.

On Nov. 3, in broad daylight, barefoot and wearing a hospital gown, the 28-year-old allegedly fled the hospital and ran toward the train tracks near Transcript Ave., right across the street from UK Hospital.

Yocom said it wasn’t more than 20 minutes later until UK Police picked him up.
