There just wasn’t enough in the tank for the Wisconsin football team to hang with the top-ranked Oregon Ducks at Camp Randall tonight. It was a valiant effort, but the Badgers came up short in an entertaining Big Ten game.
Despite the loss, there are still some positive takeaways from this game.
The Defense Came to Play
One bright spot tonight was the defense for the Badgers. Led by Heisman contender Dillon Gabriel, the Ducks are loaded with speed and talent on the offensive side of the ball.
For most of the game, they were able to keep Gabriel from getting into a rhythm, causing multiple incompletions for an otherwise very accurate quarterback.
Christian Alliegro continues to shine after taking over for Jaheim Thomas, who has played sparingly the past few weeks with an injury. The redshirt freshman tallied 10 total tackles tonight, second on the team behind Hunter Wohler who finished with 12.
The Wisconsin defense was on their toes all night, not falling for multiple trick plays by the Ducks. Before the half, Oregon tried a fake kneel-down before the half that Wisconsin snuffed out. Then they stuffed the fake field goal late in the fourth quarter to give the offense another chance to tie or win the game.
